Steps

  1. Warm the milk, sugar and salt in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring now and then. You are aiming for steaming and barely bubbling at the edges, around 82 °C / 180 °F — never a boil.
  2. While the milk heats, melt the chopped chocolate in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each. Stop while a few lumps are still visible and stir them out with residual heat; overheated chocolate turns grainy.
  3. Turn off the burner and move the pan off the hot ring. Whisk the melted chocolate into the milk until the drink is smooth and glossy, then whisk in the vanilla.
  4. Let the pot stand 3 minutes so it stops steaming hard. Add the 2 ml of tincture and whisk steadily for 30 full seconds — an evenly mixed pot is the whole dosing plan, so don't rush this.
  5. Portion with a measuring cup, not by eye: pour exactly 1 cup (240 ml) into each of 4 mugs. If a little is left in the pan, divide it evenly between the four mugs, a splash at a time.
  6. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows if you like, and serve. One mug is one 5 mg serving — no refills from a second pot, and no topping up a mug that's already been drunk from.
  7. Leftovers: pour any undrunk, undivided chocolate into a jar, refrigerate up to 3 days and reheat gently on the stove without boiling — but note the dose only stays accurate if you kept whole measured cups.
  8. Label the jar or carafe: Fireside Sipping Chocolate · 20 mg THC total · 5 mg per 1-cup mug · 4 mugs · made [date] · 21+ only.
