Editorial Standards
The Library is where Baked Elf explains cannabis to adults 21 and over. This page covers the Library articles signed Baked Elf Editorial: how they are made, machine parts included. It describes what happens today, and it changes when that does. A short section at the end covers the Kitchen's recipes.
The short version
- Library articles signed Baked Elf Editorial are researched and drafted by AI models, checked against our house rules, and approved by a person before they publish.
- Nothing publishes itself, and only the people we have named as publishers can approve an article.
- These articles never invent people: no made-up experts, quotes, testimonials or reviewers. An article is signed or credited to a person only if that person really wrote or reviewed it.
- Everything in the Library is educational, not medical.
How an article is made
Each article starts from one question. An AI researcher gathers sources, strongest first:
- laws, regulations and regulators
- government health agencies
- systematic reviews and national academies reports
- peer-reviewed studies and court filings
- industry data and the news, last
A source counts only if its page was opened and read during that run. Cannabis shops and companies, strain databases, consumer magazines, seed banks and forums on our blocklist are never the source of a fact.
An AI planner turns the research into a brief, and an AI writer drafts the article in our voice, tying each fact to its source. A fact it can't source is flagged, and a flagged article can't be approved. A separate AI editor, which never sees the writer's notes on its own work, checks the draft against the sources and sends it back when it falls short. If the second draft still falls short, a person decides whether it goes back to the writer, moves on to the checker, or is dropped.
An AI compliance checker then reads the whole article against our house rules. Among them:
- written for adults 21 and over
- no medical claims
- federal law stays visible
- driving is never played down
- dosing is general, never personal
- every fact has a source
- no invented people
- commerce kept apart from the writing: no prices, and at most one related product, labelled "related, not sponsored"
Before any article starts, that checker must catch every mistake planted in a set of test articles written to break those rules. If the checker changes, it must pass that test again before the next article starts. An article it blocks can't be approved until a fix passes a fresh check.
Then a person reads the article as it will appear, with the checker's report and every source beside it. They can send it back with notes, answer the questions the AI raised, edit it, reject it or approve it.
Some edits go back to the checker before the article can be approved: a changed number, a changed sentence that cites a source, a changed safety note, an added link, a deleted paragraph, and any edit to the FAQ or the search title and description. Other small wording edits are not checked again.
What every article shows
- A byline and the date it went live.
- Numbered sources with links, and footnotes that show which source backs which sentence. A claim with no linked source can't be approved.
- The disclaimer: educational, not medical.
- No "reviewed" date unless a second person has reviewed the article.
What we hold back
Some articles will need two different people to approve them:
- articles on law and policy, health and safety, or the science
- news briefs
- any article with dosing math, a legal fact or a finding from a health study
That two-person approval isn't built yet, so none of these publish under Baked Elf Editorial for now.
What is legal where changes fast, so legal facts will come only from a ledger of facts a person has checked against the law or the regulator, each one dated. That ledger isn't open yet, so for now our articles leave legal specifics out.
Our articles carry no AI-made pictures. A table appears only when it is built from the article's own sources; anything that can't be drawn properly yet is left out.
Money
Baked Elf sells merch and prints. It never sells cannabis. An article may point to one related product, labelled "related, not sponsored". Our articles never review our own products. Nobody pays to appear in the Library.
When we get it wrong
Tell us at help@bakedelf.com. If an article is wrong, we take it down, and a corrected version goes through every step above before it goes back up.
In the Kitchen
- Recipes signed Baked Elf Chef are adapted by AI models from recipes published elsewhere, credited with a link to the original, and approved by a person before they appear.
- Recipes members write are their own and appear as soon as they are posted. The recipe generator can draft one from a photo using AI models; the draft opens in the recipe form, where the member can change anything before posting it.
- When a recipe has no photo, we may make a picture for it with AI models, and the Kitchen labels it as an illustration.
- Every infused recipe shows its dose per serving, rounded down to a tenth of a milligram, never up.
