Start low, go slow — a field guide

Your first edible should be uneventful. That is the whole goal. The forest rewards patience, not bravado — nobody has ever bragged about the time they took *too little*.

Begin at 2.5 mg, or even half of that if you are new. Write down the number and the time. Onset from an edible can take anywhere from forty-five minutes to two hours, because your liver, not your lungs, is doing the work — and livers keep their own schedule.

Then wait. Ninety minutes, minimum, before you consider a second dose. Most of the uncomfortable stories you have heard start with someone re-dosing at the forty-minute mark because "it wasn't working." It was working. It was just taking the scenic route.

Eat something first, keep water close, and stay somewhere you would be happy to spend the evening. Set and setting are not hippie garnish — they are most of the experience.

This is educational, not medical advice. If a medication or condition is in the picture, your doctor outranks any elf. But for a healthy adult meeting edibles for the first time: start low, go slow, and let the fireflies come to you.
